Open House on the Utah, Colorado & Western

Perry Lamb, a charter member of The North Atlanta Rail Barons, opened his Utah, Colorado & Western Railroad for a Piedmont Division Open House on April 13, 2014. The event was well attended with more than 46 visitors from the Division and the general public.

Rob Dodds and Brian Sandberg, both members of the Rail Barons, operated trains for the duration of the event, and Howard Goodwin, MMR greeted guests at the door and talked about model railroading topics of specific interest to them. Barbara Crawford served as hostess/greeter, and she is a natural! (I think she got indoctrinated at the Model Train Show!) And of course, Perry spent most of his time - shadowed by watchdog George - in the train room answering questions about the UC&W. Perry has a very fertile imagination which is demonstrated in his written "history" of the railroad.

The three-hour event stretched into almost four hours with late-comers arriving near the scheduled closing time to view the operations of the trains and the superb scenery. Perry's late wife Michelle painted the wonderful backdrops and helped with scenery installation, and the Rail Barons have assisted with planting trees, paving roads, and pouring concrete among other things. All of the pictures below are clickable for a more detailed view.

More details and photographs of the Utah, Colorado & Western Railroad are available on the Perry Lamb member page.

The Piedmont Division Open House program is administered by the Division's Director of Operations Walt Liles, who is responsible for scheduling special programs. Each month, one or two model railroads are featured in an Open House on the Sunday afternoon following the monthly Division meeting (which is held on the second Tuesday of each month.)

The North Atlanta Rail Barons are blessed with many very talented and highly-accomplished modelers, and Perry Lamb is one of the best in the Division. We are fortunate to have his experience and willingness to share it with us.
